Natural Hair Replacement Surgery
Hair replacement surgery gives you permanent growing hair that looks natural and healthy. With this process, your own hair is replaced one follicle at a time, and the source of this hair is the most natural possible–your own scalp!
Most patients become bald gradually over years and natural hair replacement surgery works best when it counteracts the balding as it progresses. Some of the older techniques of hair restoration that you might be familiar with (plugs, minigrafts, and micrografts) involved taking relatively large areas of hair from the donor site and transplanting them to the recipient site in big clusters. This often resulted in an artificial-looking “cornrow” effect.
Dr. Griffin uses the latest techniques for hair restoration, including microscopic follicular unit grafting and follicular unit extraction (FUE) with NeoGraft to help you achieve the most natural-looking coverage possible. Patients can be comforted in knowing that with either technique, the final results are nearly undetectable to anyone that surgery has been performed.
Hair Transplantation by Microscope-Assisted Follicular Grafting
The most natural appearance is the ultimate goal in hair replacement surgery. In the fifty years since hair transplantation procedures began, such techniques as plugs, minigrafts, and micrografts attempted to meet this goal, but often were not the successful. Using the latest microscope-assisted follicular grafting, a natural appearance is now achieved by making follicular unit grafts, containing one or more follicular units. Donor hair follicles are harvested from a non-balding area on the scalp (the side or back of the head). The hairs in these areas are genetically coded to remain intact throughout one’s lifetime and avoid the genetic pattern loss that occurs on the front, top, and crown of the scalp. Therefore, when transplanted to balding areas of the scalp, these follicles will continue to be naturally resistant to the hormone that stimulates hair loss.
NeoGraft with Follicular Unit Extraction
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a safe and minimally invasive procedure that individually extracts one follicular unit at a time, instead of a donor strip. This technique is ideal for patients who would like to wear their hair short or tend to scar easily as it leaves no linear scar in the donor area. NeoGraft is an automated hair transplant device that may be used during a FUE procedure. The NeoGraft has several benefits for patients as it diminishes procedure time and decreases the risk of mechanical injury to the grafts because it doesn’t require forceps during extraction unlike all other forms of FUE.
Dr. Griffin will help you achieve the most natural-looking hair growth possible. Patients can feel comfortable in knowing that with this technique, the final results are completely natural looking and incisions virtually undetectable. READ MORE
